Protest Event Densities

Checking the boxes next to the NSPE and Newspapers1 reveals circles for the number of protest events per city for each source. Blue circles are for the NSPE and red circles are for the newspapers. Bigger circles around cities indicate that a greater number of events took place there. Hover over each circle to see the actual number of events and city name. Checking and unchecking the boxes, shows four extra-large red circles around Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York. Blue circles for those same cities are much smaller. Plus, we observe a clustering and scattering of large, medium, and small blue circles across the map, while red circles of these sizes are relatively scarce. In contrast to the newspapers, then, not only are events from the NSPE less concentrated in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York, but higher numbers of them are found in a much wider range of U.S. cities.
